hello

does anyone even read my blog anymore? I'm starting to feel lame and unloved again. I need a constant stream of attention directed my way. ok, that's a bit overboard. I realize i haven't given you guys any pictures for a while, and if i didn't have 400 pages, seriously, 400, to have read by tomorrow i would give you some now. but that will have to wait, at least one more day. off to read. The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan. plus a lot more, less interesting stuff.

Sorry

Sorry I haven't posted much lately. It was parents' weekend this past weekend and my grandma came to visit. it was fun. friday night we went to the movie; we saw North Country. REALLY good! you should all see it. Saturday night we went to dinner at an Italian place, then to the theater sports show (it's like whitman's who's line is it anyways group), and then to the Speakeasy accapella concert. also really good. today she had to leave at 2 and now i have SOOOO much work to do it's not even funny. aaagggghhh i'm not gonna make it. and we only have one week til rocky, next saturday. i know my part really well (it's my third year) but the strip part is still a little rusty. OH we won our football game this morning, we played the hippos, who were a playoff team last year, so it was a big win for us. We had a KICKASS three-woman D-line...me, Jess, and Erin dominate, if i do say so myself. and i had my first almost-interception, but i didn't catch it. oh well. i love football. three HUGE games next week, two saturday and one sunday. we need to win most of them to make it to the playoffs. wish me luck. well, next week at least.

bell hooks

bell hooks spoke on my campus tonight. I hadn't really even heard of her until i wrote my historiographic essay about Betty Friedan (founder of the women's movement and the National Organization for Women), because bell hooks disapproves of Friedan. hooks is a feminist activist, racial activist, class activist, etc etc. Anyways, I just wanted to give you a quote from her that I found interesting. something to think about if you need something to think about, at least.
"Think about all the things you don't think will happen to you."

Sorry

Sorry I haven't been writing anything interesting on here lately. Not gonna lie, my life hasn't been all that exciting. The weather is weird. It got really cold for like a week, and last week it heated back up and has been from 65 to 70 which is so hot for the middle of october! Then this morning is POURED for like two hours. Now it's getting hot again. so weird. whatever. i would prefer it stay warm for as long as possible.

Blogger presentation

This blog is for my ed presentation Monday, so for those of you at home, sorry. This will most likely be boring for you. However, for Tom, Kate and Nate, Lizzy and I will now explain how blogs work and how they are educationally useful.
First, a blog is actually a "web log", or "weblog", shortened to "blog." There are a few ways to publish a blog. Blogger, obviously, is one (this one). There is also Blog Organizer, Blogware, Blog Wizard, and Diary 2002, to name a few.
Blogs have been useful in the classroom by allowing students a forum on which to read information and assignments and comment back on the "comments" panel thing, either asking questions about the assignment or discussing different topics with classmates.
Alright, the rest we will talk about in class tomorrow morning.

Whitman Debates

At Whitman we have a student email listserv, and being nerds, we always get into debates via email. There is always a variety of topics, some serious, some funny, some boring. This week's, though, is actually pretty interesting. Whitman is taking measures to ban army recruiters from setting up info tables and handing out pamphlets, etc, on our campus. This is because we are very liberal and our, uh, statement thingy...can't remember what it's called...anyways it says that we pledge not to do anything/sponsor anything that discriminates based on sex, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, etc etc, and the army doesn't allow homosexuals. hmmm. interesting topic, i think. should we allow army recruiters on our campus when they won't let our gay students enlist if they want? i don't know...

It's Venise's 21st birthday tomorrow (it's Kalen's 19th today!) so we are taking her out tomorrow. her mom, stepdad, half sister, dad, and stepmom are on their way. I'll post pictures when I get back to Walla Walla. I'm here til Sunday and then in Seattle area til Wednesday (we have monday and tuesday off). Thank God. I am already ready for christmas break! Today we are going to visit Bryson, Brittany and Joe. It'll be cool to see some p-town people.

Rocky

well we just casted our show. It's gonna be great. As usual. You really can't go wrong with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. An interesting development: We have a stripper at the beginning of the show, or in last year's case, stripperS, and this year it is me and a girl named Sarah (none of the sarahs you know from my blog). OH MY GOD. I have to strip. OH MY GOD. Getting re-aquainted with the gym starting now. AHHHHHHH

Magenta

Magenta, originally uploaded by Karnawil.

I have been in Rocky Horror for three years now, this is the fourth. My freshman year I was a trannie, and sophomore and junior year I was Magenta. This year I will again be Magenta, and as an addition, the show has been handed down to matt, liz and I (it is purely student-produced). SO, my first experience with directing. and casting, which happens in 20 minutes, i should get running. I don't know what the left part of this picture is all about, that's weird, but the actual picture is my character. here is a link too: Rocky Pictures

TomKats

These are some of the new TomKats. Oh, just to clear that up, TomKats are the people (generally boys but we have three girls right now) that are "associated" with our sorority. They can be friends, boyfriends, etc of the girls in KAT. (Kappa Alpha Theta)

Scary

This was my first climb on real rock! It was so scary. It was pretty easy though, and the view was awesome!

Me at the top of one of the climbs, the hardest one.

This is where i went climbing yesterday. It's near Vantage and near the Gorge where I went to the concert.

tomorrow

I have lots of pictures i wil post tomorrow, quite the full saturday i had. It ranged from climbing a cliff 100 feet above ground, not counting that we were in a canyon, to being dressed like a, uh, i don't know, dominatrix, slut, something of that sort, involving big boots and short skirts, initiating tomkats...woohoo! pictures to come...
